The District is a member of the Bucks Montgomery County Schools Healthcare Consortium, a management-labor partnership of schools and entities. This self-funded consortium allows members to purchase medical insurance, prescription drugs, and other employee benefits as a large group, securing the best possible pricing. The consortium also focuses on employee health and wellness, which can contribute to additional cost savings for participating members. Website info: http://www.bmshc.org/

Open Enrollment

It is an eligible employee's annual opportunity to join a District insurance plan, change a plan, leave a plan, or add or remove eligible dependents. This period typically occurs in May of each year. Changes outside of Open Enrollment are only allowed for qualifying life events.

Employees are responsible for notifying Human Resources of "qualifying life events" such as marriage, divorce, birth/adoption of child, death of a covered family member. There is a 30-day window from the date of a “life event” to make coverage changes. Changes not submitted within this period must wait until the next Open Enrollment.

All information about your medical, prescription, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts (FSA), Voluntary Symetra benefits, employer-paid Basic Life and AD&D, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and short-term, long-term, and voluntary supplemental life insurance (if applicable based on the terms of your contract) is available on the Bensalem Township School District Benefits Portal.

Lab Work Cost Comparisons

All members should be aware of potential cost differences for lab work. Members enrolled in Open Choice 3 should pay particular attention, as costs may vary significantly depending on where services are performed.

Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp are Aetna’s preferred laboratory vendors and offer lower, contracted rates. For example, the same test performed at an in-network hospital may cost up to $1,000 more than the same test completed at a Quest Diagnostics facility.

Members are encouraged to use the Aetna Cost Estimator Tool to compare costs for specific procedures such as lab services, MRIs, CT scans, and other medical services. Please note that members must be logged into the member portal to access cost details specific to the BMCS plans.
