Commended Students are named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year to year and is typically below the level required for participants to be named Semifinalists in their respective states. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit® Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
Lucas is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a Hispanic Scholarship Foundation Scholar and a member of National Honor Society. He is also a member of the Varsity Soccer team, Mock Trial, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) and Mathletes. Lucas was named best witness at the Mock Trial University of Pennsylvania Invitational and earned a first-place award at the PJAS State Competition. His hobbies include going to church, hanging with friends and cooking. Lucas would like to attend the University of Pennsylvania and while his major is undecided, he is generally interested in the education field.
Megh is an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of the Tennis team, Mock Trial, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS), Community Service Club and Mathletes. He earned a first-place award at the PJAS State Competition and earned a commendation shortlist in the John Locke Essay Competition, an annual international competition for young people age 18 or under to write argumentative essays on topics in philosophy, politics, economics, history, law, psychology and theology. A commendation shortlist is a list of the top essays that stood out to the judges and are now being considered for final prizes. Out of school, Megh enjoys reading, hiking and camping. After graduating from BHS, he plans to major in Engineering.
Bensalem Township School District is extremely proud of the accomplishments of our academically talented students and congratulate Lucas and Megh on this outstanding achievement. We look forward to recognizing them at our School Board meeting on Tuesday, October 28.
