Community Letter Regarding Shafer Incident

February 19, 2021

Dear Bensalem Community,

Yesterday, during a Black History Month virtual program for Shafer Middle School seventh and eighth grade students, a Zoom bombing occurred when an unwelcomed attendee abused the virtual space and shared hateful speech.  This appalling incident is being investigated by the Bensalem Township School District in cooperation with the Bensalem Township Police Department, and has been reported to Zoom security as offensive, illegal and abusive conduct.

It is unacceptable that our students and guests had to endure this offensive and inexcusable behavior displayed for a short period of time during this meeting.  Bensalem Township School District encourages free speech and robust dialogue, but we do not tolerate antisemitism, racism, harassment or violence of any kind.

We intend to hold the person or persons responsible in this Zoom bombing accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Additionally, we encourage anyone who has been affected by or witnessed any discrimination, harassment or bias incident, including Zoom bombings, to immediately report the incident by emailing

Samuel Lee, Ed.D., District Superintendent
