Continuing Education - Act 48 and Act 45

Individuals holding a certification issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have continuing education requirements.  Compliance with these requirements is the obligation of the individual.  Please be aware of your requirements and deadlines.  The District does not track those on your behalf.

Act 48 Requirements:

Act 48 of 1999 requires all Pennsylvania educators holding Pennsylvania public school certification (including Instructional I and II, Educational Specialist I and II, Administrative, Supervisory, Letters of Eligibility, and all vocational certificates) to participate in ongoing professional education. Educators must earn six credits of collegiate study, PDE approved continuing professional education courses, or 180 hours of continuing professional education programs or activities through a PDE approved provider.

Important Note: Act 48 hour requirements begin to run upon issuance of the certification - not when you start teaching on that certification.

You can review your Act 48 hour status through PERMS. https://www.perms.pa.gov/screens/wfpublicaccess.aspx
